Port Blair, May 11: The Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District has quashed all allegations made under the news report ‘LG Expresses Displeasure on Dealy in Action by Police” carried on 9th May 2015. The news report had mentioned “The Hon’ble Lt Governor has expressed his displeasure on the delay in taking action by the A&N Police against a bus driver for causing a road accident which had resulted in grievous injuries to a lady namely, Smt Kalpana Sethi, R/o Garacharma. He has directed the DGP for immediately registration of a case and initiating action against all Police personnel involved in the matter for their acts of omission.

The SP SA in clarification said that the news published is short of facts. He said that the Police Station, Pahargaon had registered a case in the incident (accident) on the complaint of Smti Kalpana Sethi, the very same day on February 27, 2015, which is the day the accident took place. The complaint was registered Under Section 279, 338 IPC vide FIR No. 43 dated 27.02.2015.

The accused driver George Thomas, driving the bus at the relevant time, too was arrested on the same day alongwith the said Bus (AN 01C 3463), seized in the case, after collecting credible evidence relating to the accident.

In addition, the Police had submitted relevant documents in the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) to expedite claim for compensation to the victim and informed the victim undergoing treatment at GB Pant Hospital as an indoor patient. 

Investigation of the case is complete in all respect except for medical papers/ documents and the charge sheet, therefore will be filed when victim is discharged from the Hospital, said the SP SA, Atul Kumar Thakur, adding that the A&N Police is very prompt in registering FIR and taking action to its logical end.
