April 28: In a big respite for police personnel deputed on duty to remotest Lookout-Posts in these islands, the Andaman and Nicobar Police has reduced the tenure from two months to one. Speaking to Andaman Sheekha, the Inspector General of Police, Mr Narender Kumar Bundela stated that the force is committed to the welfare and safety of its personnel and a number of steps are being taken in this regard.On the harsh conditions faced by Constables at Narcondum and other far-flung islands, Mr Bundela said the Coast Guard and the Andaman and Nicobar Command remain vigilant and in case of any emergencies within 24 hours for the rescue of the cops. Further a Police Compounder and a Radio Operator have been provided to such remote posts so that injured ones should be given prompt first aid and relay of emergency.
