Port Blair, Jan 30: As part of enforcement under Swach Bharat Abhiyan, the people were earlier cautioned to keep their surroundings clean and not to throw any garbage in open. The A&N Police has been taking strict action against the defaulters under section 34(5) and 34(7) of Indian Police Act 1861. On Jan 29, 10 persons were challaned at Neil Kendra (4), Tamil Basti area (5) and Telgu Basti area (1) in the jurisdiction of PS Neil Island.

Meanwhile, the general public have been advised not to indulge in any act which leaves the public spaces unclean or unhygienic in any way, a communication from SP (HQ) said.
