Port Blair, Jan 21: 09 Myanmar Nationals and 11 local Fishermen have been apprehended from Jarawa Reserved Area by the Joint Patrolling Team of Andaman & Nicobar Police and AAJVS staff.

Acting on a tip off a Joint Anti-Poaching Team comprising of SI S Mohanan, I/C OP Tirur, HC/1275 KK Singh, PC/1735 Neeraj Mondal both staff of OP Tirur, PC/204 R.A. Yadav, JPP Tirur 1(A), PC/849 T. Jabeer and PC/2863 M. Mohd Mustafa both staff of PS Ograbraj and AAJVS Staff Shri Balram Yadav was formed and sent for Anti-Poaching Operation on AAJVS Engine dinghy driven by Shri Mahesh Mazumdar of AAJVS. The team members apprehended 5 persons in one engine dinghy with two halis dinghies from Lamba Balu near Jarawa Hut and another engine dinghy with 6 persons and two halis dinghies from the creek of Hiran Tikrey. All 11 fishermen, upon interrogation, were found to be residents of Dairy Farm, Port Blair. They were arrested for committing offence of entering into Jarawa Reserved Area under the PAT Regulation.

Due to darkness, the team alongwith apprehended fishermen halted in the creek at Hiran Tikrey during night on their engine dinghy. Today (21/01/15), early in the morning, at around 5 am, upon hearing the sound of a Burmese engine dinghy, they took their position and waited for the boat to come closer. At around 5.30 am, the team intercepted one Brumese engine dinghy with 09 Myanmari Nationals onboard from the creek of Jarawa Reserved Area. Immediately, all the poachers were apprehended and brought to PS Ograbraj for further action alongwith other 11 local fishermen. Further action as per law is being taken against the Burmese Nationals.
