Port Blair, Aug. 30: A meeting was held at PS Aberdeen by the Traffic Police on 27/8/2015 with the representatives of Pvt. Bus Owners Association and Pvt. Bus Drivers & Conductors Union on traffic discipline.
During the meeting, the union representatives were apprised about the violations committed by the Pvt. Bus drivers on the road thereby causing congestion's and undue inconvenience to the general public. The main focus of the meeting was on discouraging the usage of pressure horn, overtaking, haphazard parking, over speeding, dangerous driving, etc.
All the union representatives were instructed to create a mechanism to maintain a regular check on the activities of drivers and take strict action against them. On this Shri Thyagarajan, President, A&N Pvt. Bus Owners Association stated that they have already convened a meeting with all owners and drivers to work out the strategy to bring improvement and uniformity in the operation of private buses for providing better services to the public for which they have unanimously decided to provide training, good salary and ID Card to the drivers and conductors in order to of inculcate a sense of discipline in them.
On the same day the Traffic Police also conducted special drive against using pressure horns and total 32 private buses were checked and out of which, 3 buses have been challaned under M.V Act for using pressure horn.
Traffic Police will also be conducting special drives against drunken driving, over speeding, triple riding and rash driving etc. in the near future.
